AMC’s hit TV series, The Walking Dead is set to begin it’s 4th season on October 13th, 2013 here in the U.S. Not content to stop there, AMC is already planning to continue their zombie TV dominance with a Walking Dead spinoff in 2015.

On Monday AMC announced their plans to launch a companion series for The Walking Dead that is rumored to approach the zombie apocalypse from a different perspective and one that isn’t based on Robert Kirkman’s comic.

AMC President and General Manager Charlie Collier  stated:

“We look forward to working with Robert, Gale and Dave again as we develop an entirely new story and cast of characters. It’s a big world and we can’t wait to give fans another unforgettable view of the zombie apocalypse.”

Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman will be the executive producer of this new zombie tv series along with Gale Anne Hurd and David Alpert.

There are rumors that this new series will be titled, “Spread The Dead” but the official word is this series is not yet titled. We’re pretty sure the folks at AMC can come up with a better title than that!

What do YOU think? Does this spinoff series indicate The Walking Dead will end by 2015? Will it truly be a companion series? Is this too much zombie for TV? Do you plan on watching? Let us know what think in the comments section below!

  1. The Walking Dead is one of my favorite shows and I`m really hoping that a spinoff doesn`t mean the end of the show. And I probably will check the spinoff out.

  2. Is there really such a thing as too much zombie for tv? I watch all things zombie, or as much as humanly possible. I would give it a run and see what it is all about. I would love to see the ZA from another groups stand point. Give us a new slant and new group of characters to know and love.

    • I’m pretty sure this is just going to be a companion show and does NOT mean the end of TWD any time soon, but then again one can’t help but speculate. It wouldn’t be the first time AMC killed off a show at the height of its popularity only to follow up with a spinoff series ::COUGHCOUGHBreakingBadCOUGHCOUGH::

  4. First of all you can never have too much zombie, look at the vampire stuff out there I mean seriously! As to wether or not it will be the end of the walking dead well that remains to be seen. I guess it will depend on the plot! Nothing says that they can’t be companion shows.

  5. It’s no real surprise that they want to do a spinoff show, based solely on the huge popularity of The Walking Dead TV series. I think most fans of The Walking Dead series (if not all) will want to follow the spinoff series. The Zombie craze is hugely popular right now, and I see no end in sight! I for one am a fanboy, and it should be interesting to see how the spinoff series takes a hold. I think that it’s safe to say that the new show will be a hit as well!

  6. I would definitly watch the new series because I love all the zombie stuff but I certainly hope it is not the end for TWD. I will be crushed if it is. I can’t wait until October 13th!

  7. Can’t wait for the spin off – love to see them use the book that was written by T.Rico called Northern Lights it’s a brillant story of an alien invasion that is cloaked by the Northern Lights. It ushers forth a zombie apocalypse as the Sun enters a solar maximum. The imagery would be awesome + it actually explains how the apocalypse starts rather than begininng the story already after the disease spreads – I thought it was awesome and it has rave reviews – but I love the walking dead sooo much I’m sure whatever the storyline im sure it will be GREAT!
