A Death Scented Cologne to Help You Survive The Zombie Apocalypse?

Fans of AMC’s The Walking Dead might remember Season 1 Episode 2 “Guts.” In the episode Rick Grimes and Glenn Rhee need to walk through a horde of Walkers and they mask their scent with zombie guts and blood. Michonne is also known for disguising herself by toting around a pair of zombies on leashes to mask her smell.  It’s a widely accepted “truth” that zombies detect humans by smell. Should the unlikely zombie apocalypse ever become reality there’s no need to worry. Chemist Raychelle Burks, Ph.D. and the folks at The American Chemical Society  have your back with a potentially life saving idea. If and when the zombies come we might be able to camouflage our delicious living aroma with the scent of death and decomposition. (No need to smear yourself with actual decomposed body parts either!)

According to Raychelle, three chief chemicals responsible for the putrid stench of death and decomposition could be combined to create a Death Cologne that makes you smell like a zombie. Chemicals such as the polyamines Putrescine and Cadaverine could be used since the human body actually produces these chemicals early on in the decomposition process. According to Burks, combining these chemicals along with a foul smelling Sulphur containing chemical such as Methanethiol could be the perfect bouquet for warding off hordes of the undead.

It’s all explained in a video posted on the Reactions Youtube channel which you can check out below:

This isn’t the first time we’ve tackled the topic of death scented cologne. Almost exactly a year ago we told you about actual zombie themed cologne and perfume. What are your thoughts? Could a “Death Cologne” help save the world on z-day? Would you volunteer to try it out? Let us know in the comment section below!
