Get A Free The Walking Dead 2013 Georgia Travel Guide

For those who don’t know, Georgia is hot right now. I’m not talking temperature, but popularity in the world of tourism and travel hot spots.   Since The Walking Dead has been filming there it’s become a sort of zombie mecca. The folks at the Georgia Department of Economic Development have had the foresight to take advantage of this in order to promote tourism in their beautiful part of the country.

In case you missed it, they’ve published a Zombie/Walking Dead themed 2013 Travel Guide. It features Andrew Lincoln and some walkers on the front cover. You can view a digital copy online right now or even request a free print version be mailed to you!  I heard about this at the beginning of the year and it totally slipped my mind until a fan recently reminded me about it about a month ago.  Fearing they would be long gone I hurriedly requesting mine online and it arrived in the mail a few short days later.  I was shocked how fast it came because the website mentions it arriving within nine days. Whenever dealing with the USPS or any government agency I automatically double the expected time. Needless to say I was shocked at how fast it arrived.

They sent not only the travel guide but also a full  2013-2014 Official Georgia Highway and Transportation Map published by the Georgia Department of Transportation, a Georgia State Parks & Historic Sites booklet, and a “Welcome to the Governor’s Mansion card with information about touring the The Georgia’s Governor’s Mansion. It all came in a very cool Georgia peach envelope. Check it all out in the photos below:

My travel guide had a little damage (a crease in the middle ad some damaged corners, but that’s due to the Postal Service’s handling more than anything. (My mail carrier jammed mine into our mailbox folded in half lengthwise.  It’s a common hobby she also enjoys partaking in with my beloved issues of The Walking Dead Magazine as well!)

The travel guide mainly features a The Walking Dead themed cover.  On page 10 there’s a cool little article about the 40 year history of television and film making in Georgia. It features a short little blurb from Andrew Lincoln about how much he loves filming on location in Senoia and surrounding locations. There’s not much zombie content beyond that. It is, after all, a travel guide.

That being said it’s actually a great travel guide.  I was shocked to see how many cool things there are to see and do in Georgia.  I’ve been through the northwestern corner of the Peach State twice in my life but never more than passing through.  I’ve always wanted to take an opportunity to stay and see the sights.

I was kicking around the idea of taking my son to see some of the The Walking Dead filming locations and possibly to Savannah, Georgia on our way back for it’s paranormal and historical reputation.   I was on the fence until I received this travel guide.  There is so much to see and do in Georgia I’ve pretty much decided I’ll have to find a way to save some money and make a  trip to see more of what the state has to offer! I’ve definitely got “Georgia on my mind” now!

Click here to view the travel guide online.  If you want your own free copy of The Walking Dead 2013 Georgia Travel Guide simply visit their site at exploregeorgia.org/brochures.    Near the top you should see the Travel Guide in the “Featured Brochures” section. If not, do a quick search or try this link to request your free print copy: http://www.exploregeorgia.org/order-brochure/featured/free-2013-georgia-travel-guide-zombies.

If you’re a Walking Dead collector thinking about a visit to Georgia I would highly recommend requesting the print version.  Just please remember the idea here is to promote Georgia tourism and commerce.  If you’re a Walking Dead fan requesting the guide solely for collecting with no intention of visiting the state please reconsider. At the very least please find a way to support the Georgia economy in return for your free travel guide. I have no idea how long these will be available so I’d act fast just in case!
