The folks over at Skybound recently announced a standalone sequel to the The Walking Dead Board Game. The upcoming game is simply titled The Walking Dead: The Prison and is inspired by the events that transpired in the comic from issues 13 to 24. You guessed it: the glorious prison arc.
Like its predecessor, this game includes Walking Dead artwork from Charlie Adlard and it will feature the comic characters you know and love. In The Walking Dead: The Prison you’ll need to search, clear and maintain various areas of the prison. The goal of The Walking Dead: The Prison Board Game is to earn enough “Leadership Points” to take control of the entire group of survivors. Is Rick the right leader? Maybe. You and up to five of your friends can take on the role of six leaders from the comic and find out! Play as Rick, Michonne, Dale, Andrea, Glenn or Tyreese. The game reportedly plays differently each and every time so it should bring tons of enjoyment to you and your friends and family.
The suggested retail price for the new Walking Dead comic board game is $49.99. The current anticipated release date is November of 2014 but is subject to change.
The best part about this sequel to the original Walking Dead comic board game is you can get involved and help support it’s development! How? The game is being premiered on the wildly popular crowdfunding site kickstarter.com. This allows the developers to raise the needed funds but perhaps just as importantly, it allows everyone that contributes to the game’s development to reap some very cool collectible rewards. Basically you contribute funds to back the project in exchange for cool rewards and bonuses. You can even score the game a little cheaper in the process! Personal bonuses are great but you can even have a hand in making the game better for everyone! How cool is that? Read on and check out the video below for more details.
The description in the kickstarter page probably explains it best:
By supporting The Walking Dead The Prison – Board Game, YOU will be helping to not only make this game a reality, but also helping us bring more value to our players than if we were pursuing a traditional retail model.
We are two small gaming companies, and while we may have a very strong brand license, we still have to develop, design, produce, manufacture, ship, market and sell our product. So, every little bit helps.
In addition to showing that you’re a fan of The Walking Dead and getting your copy before it hits store shelves, you’ll also be creating unique opportunities to make the game better.
Our website, WalkingDeadBoardGame.com, frequently receives all sorts of requests from fans that aren’t always practical in a traditional business model, but now through Kickstarter become possible!
As a tremendous and heartfelt thank you for your support, we are going to give you some amazing rewards, from additional, better components to enhanced features and customization. We’ll even be able to offer Kickstarter backers the chance to get themselves into the game through their own unique character cards or the chance for a few backers to become characters in every copy of the game produced.
So, if you ever wanted to see how you would look, feel and survive in the world of The Walking Dead, here’s your chance!
Walking Dead fans interested in contributing to the game can pledge at various levels starting at just $1.00 and going all the way up to $10,000 or more! You’ll need to pledge at least $5.00 to hit the first reward level. Five bucks will get you listed as a supporter in the rule book and on the website. Contribute $10 to $24.99 and you’ll be listed as a supporter and also receive an exclusive dice bag. Plunk down $25 and you’ll receive a thank you in the rulebook and the website and an exclusive Walking Dead Dice tray. At the $47.00 pledge level you’ll receive a copy of the game and the previously mentioned thank you messages. At around $80 you’ll receive a copy of the board game, all applicable thank you’s and the exclusive dice bag and dice tray! (This is my personal favorite and probably the option I’ll choose.) Of course there are a ton of other reward levels beyond the $100 range but I won’t spoil it. Head on over to the kickstarter project page and have a look for yourself.
We have no doubts this funding campaign will work and the game will easily hit it’s original funding goal. What’s really cool is the option to push for more funding and improve the end result. The harder we work, the better the game will be for fans! The folks behind the game have set stretch goals. Simply put, these are bonuses that will be added to the game if the project raises more than the original $81,100 goal. For example, if the project raises $90,000 a card designed with facebook fan input will be implemented in the game. If the project raises $100,000 Dexter will be a featured starting character. If pledges total $115,000 an expansion pack featuring an additional 25 encounter cards and 5 goals will be added to the game. If the project sees $130,000 raised Shane will be back from the dead and featured as a starting character in the game! Additional mystery goals will be unlocked should the project raise $150,000 or more.
How to Contribute:
Visit the official Kickstarter page for this project or check out the widget below. Read the details and select which level you’d like to contribute at. The funding period for this project is open from March 5th through April 2nd, 2014. It’s worth noting that many of the reward bonuses are limited in number and once they’re gone they’re gone! Take for example, the $45 “In The Camper Early Bird Special” reward of which only 250 are available.
Funding for this project will only be released if it reaches the goad of $81,100 in pledges. The Walking Dead The Prison Board Game has already received nearly $8,000 in pledges from 114 backers at this point but there’s only 27 days left. Help bring this game to life and bring more value to it in the process by making a pledge today!
If you can’t pledge or you want to help beyond simply contributing funds you can make a huge difference for free! Simply share this blog post with friends and family via social media or send people to the page on kickstarter. Helpspread the word!: http://kck.st/1eXSBda
