Zombie Giveaway Update: You Sneaky Little Zombies!

Oh you sneaky little zombies!

I just wanted to post a friendly reminder that we do monitor entries on our zombie giveaways. We’ve noticed a handful of entrants that appear to be attempting to skirt around the rules and requirements. I’d like to remind everyone we do moderate entries and we will verify winners that are randomly chosen. What does that mean? It means we’ll check to ensure the randomly chosen winner has actually done what they said they did when they entered the giveaway.

When entering our contest, entrants are presented with a variety of options to earn an entry in the random prize drawing. For instance, you can “like” our page on facebook, “like” our sponsors on facebook, follow us (or a sponsor) on Twitter and much more. We’ve gone out of our way to present a huge variety of options to ensure even users without Facebook or Twitter accounts can enter.

At the end of the contest entry period we’ll have the giveaway software randomly choose a winner from all entrants. When the winner is picked we will look at the entry method listed and verify it. For instance, if the entry method was “Like ZombieGift.com on facebook” we WILL see if you have done so. If the entry was earned by following our sponsor on Twitter, we WILL verify that you have followed our sponsor. If the entry indicates you would “Like a blog post” or “comment on a post” then rest assured we will verify you’ve done so.

We aren’t doing this to be jerks or to punish anyone. Instead we are doing it out of respect for our generous prize sponsors and to reward everyone who follows the rules. In order to promote these giveaways via facebook we have to jump through a ton of hoops. We have gone out of our way to make sure our giveaways follow all policies and are as fair as humanly possible. We owe it to our generous sponsors and to all of the entrants!

For the time being we are only monitoring entries. We have NOT removed any entries, even if they haven’t fully complied with entry requirements. This will give people time to follow up and make corrections to their entry as needed. Just keep in mind when the winner is chosen if we can’t verify the entry we will simply choose another winner randomly until we get a winner we can validate.

We are giving people the benefit of the doubt at this point. Although I have a hunch a  few people have tried the whole “Like” then “Unlike” or “Follow” then “Unfollow” trick on Facebook and Twitter. Unfortunately this doesn’t work because we validate winners at the time the winner is chosen.  Therefore we have no way of knowing whether you never actually completed the entry task or if you did it then rapidly undid it after entering.  If you choose to unlike or unfollow after the giveaway is complete it is certainly your prerogative.  However you’ll definitely want kharma on your side during the zombie apocalypse!
