Hey zombie fans! Today we’re reviewing a three pack of plastic “3D” bunny targets from Zombie Industries.

These were purchased online from Walmart for about $12.86. For that low price you get a set of three plastic zombie bunny targets. These zombie bunny targets come packaged in a large clear plastic bag with a cardboard header tag featuring Zombie Industries branding.

Each 3 pack comes with zombunny targets of “assorted colors” ours were 2 gray bunnies and one green one. Each zombie bunny measures about 10-1/2″ tall. From the initial product photo on the Walmart site, one could mistakenly assume these were solid 3 dimensional targets. However, prior to purchase I read a review or two and already knew these are hollow plastic.

These are a clear hollow plastic bunny. The back side is concave or empty. (Think giant chocolate bunny mold). These are then painted on the back side to resemble a zombie bunny. The white eyes and blood dripping from the mouth of these bunnies let you know they aren’t your typical rabbit. These awesome zombie targets even come with a funny backstory:

Peter was your average garden variety rabbit, always looking for a fresh carrot. Then one day he wondered into a vegetable patch irrigated with ground water from around a natural gas well. At first he didn’t think twice about the funny taste, but after ingesting the toxic eats, Peter started to notice some definite change. The result: Peter Rottentail was turned into the most feared flesh-eating varmint around: the Zombunny!

According to the product description, these targets are intended for use with live ammo and airsoft guns.

For our review I didn’t have time to take these to the gun range. Instead I turned these over for a true torture test. I gave them to my son and he punished them with his airsoft guns. I fully expected the plastic airsoft bb’s from his assorted spring and electric powered airsoft guns (in the 200-350 fps range) to just bounce off of these targets. We were both pretty surprised to see them go right through from distances of 10-20 feet. With that in mind, let’s get to what I thought of these zombie targets.

My Impressions: The price of around $12.00 to $13.00 is just about right for something you’re going to spend an afternoon blowing apart and then throwing in the trash. These really do look cool! The paint job is just good enough to sell the whole “zombie bunny” thing without being so elaborate you’d need to pay more than they are worth. I like the green paint job better than the gray, but they’re all done well enough to look good.

As for usefulness these do what targets are supposed to do. They aren’t very durable, but they really aren’t something that is supposed to last for an extended period of time. The paint was a little disappointing. The minute you remove these from the package and start bending them, let alone shooting them, the paint starts flaking off. It just gets worse from there. While the paint flaking happens a little easier than I anticipated, I do understand there’s not much of a reason to worry about because they’ll end up in the trash anyway.

Another problem with these is they are lightweight. If you don’t set them against a backdrop, or drive a large nail through the bottom of them to mount them to a board or anchor them in the dirt. If you don’t take some precautionary action they will easily blow or fall over with outdoor use.

I was pretty surprised how much and how fast an airsoft gun was able to tear these targets up. I’m sure they would hold up to some plinking with my .22…but I have my doubts as to how many shots they’d take from any larger calibers before there was nothing left. (The photos of the targets with holes in them here are displaying the carnage my son unleashed on these with airsoft guns.)

All in all these are a decent buy and a fun way to mix up your shooting.

What’s Great:

– Price
– Color
– The funny zombie bunny backstory
– A fun way to add some zombie animal fun to your target practice
– Good for live ammo and airsoft/BB/Pellet shooters

What’s No So Great:

– Durability: The paint flakes off very easily. I’m not sure how long they’d last with anything bigger than an airsoft gun, bb/pellet gun, or .22 shooting them.
– Lightweight: These tend to fall or blow over easily if they aren’t properly fastened down.
– Availability: I’ve only seen these at Walmart.com. Although still available there…it looks like Zombie Industries may be doing these as a Walmart exclusive or possibly phasing them out to replace them with their more expensive “Mutilating Zombunny” targets. They are basically the same targets as these only with an orange base coat so the newer versions feature wounds that “turn orange” when shot.

The Final Word: 3 Brains out of 5.

Although they aren’t perfect, they do exactly what you’d expect a novelty plastic zombie target to do. They sit there and let you shoot the sh*t out of them until there’s nothing left. Sure the paint flakes, the targets blow apart, and they tip over easily. In the end any economical zombie shooting target is going to do the same thing.

They won’t last forever because they aren’t supposed to. If you want an over priced target to sit around and look pretty, look elsewhere. However, if you want a a way to add some zombie fun to your target practice, at about the same price as buying a pack of paper targets, these zombie bunny targets are the perfect solution. In the end I’d recommend picking up a set of these if you want an afternoon of zombie shooting fun. You’ll have fun and won’t feel sick about blowing apart a ton of money in the process.

  1. They are SO cute, I wouldn’t use them as targets-I’d use them as decorations, I’d just have to weigh them down somehow, or glue them to a board. Cheap enough. Pretty cool.
