Zombie Planet Figures are small mini figurines commonly sold in capsule quarter vending machines. Each zombie figure is made of a tough, yet flexible hard plastic. Each one stands about 1- 3/4″ tall and is painted with a cool dirty paint design. There are other paint variations offered, but the painted style shown above seems to be the most popular and the most common.
The zombie planet series features 9 unique zombie figures:
1. Surf Rot Sean
2. Rigamortis Rick
3. Decay Ray
4. Gross Out Granny
5. Dead Zone Dave
6. Zombie The Clown
7. Brain Dead Britney
8. Stop N Grind Greg
9. Long Gone John
What’s Great:
These cool zombie toys pack a surprising amount of detail. Given the fact that these are small figures purchased for $0.75 each in capsule toy vending machines they are pretty impressive. Each figure has it’s own unique small details that are easily missed at first glance. The paint work is done quite well. Someone could have taken the easy way out and just did some basic zombie details and molded all figures in a single green zombie color. I really like the care and detail that went into the design and painting. The finished product is pretty sweet for something that you buy for a few quarters!
Another thing we really like about these toy zombie figures is the tremendous amount of creativity that went into them. Each figure has a unique theme along with some funny characteristics and a clever name. “Brain Dead Britney” is your typical blond zombie cheerleader…with two heads for pom poms! Another of our favorites is Surf Rot Sean. Tucked his arm stump is what’s left of his surfboard. It’s obviously been the victim of a large shark bite or two. The shark eating is left forearm definitely seems to verify this theory. He even has some pretty sweet surfer hair!
“Long Gone John” is another of our favorites. Poor John has been zombified for so long he’s decayed down to pretty much a skeleton. His former human body is definitely long gone!
What’s Not So Great:
Overall we really do like Zombie Planet figures. With that being said, few things in life are without flaws and these are certainly no exception. Let’s take a quick look at what we didn’t like so much about these tiny zombie figures.
One of the biggest problems is these are actually quite rare to find in vending machines…at least in our area here in the Midwest U.S. These were released well over a year ago and we still don’t find them very often. We searched many stores and locations with quarter toy vending machines. We only found one store with a machine that carried the paint variation shown here. We never found another store selling these, let alone any of the other paint styles. When you do manage to find these you’ll need to shell out plenty change to complete your set.
Another thing we weren’t happy with was the price point. These sell for three quarters each. Don’t get me wrong, they’re worth every penny of that 75 cents. The problem is the $.75 price point can make completing your collection a little expensive via a vending machine. Since these are typically sold in those random quarter vending machines that supply toys in plastic capsules, your purchase is always random. You may end up with quite a few duplicates before you complete your set by purchasing through vending machines. True zombie fans won’t mind because a huge zombie horde is always better than a small one!
Finally, we are a little frustrated with a few of the figures that don’t like to stand on their own. This makes displaying them a little more difficult than it should be!
Our Rating: 3.5 out of 5
The Last Word:
Zombie planet figures are a great zombie toy in our minds. These small zombie figures pack a surprising amount of zombie detail and gore. We really love the paint work and the creative and funny details and names. In the end we’d recommend these as affordable zombie gifts and collectibles for zombie fans old and young alike. Due to their small size we definitely wouldn’t recommend them for children under 3 years of age, but anyone else is sure to love and appreciate these awesome zombie figures!
