Back in late August many of you went nuts when we told you about ZOMBIES! Magazine from Beckett Media in a facebook post. We fielded many questions on where to find it. We loved the premiere issue and debated on whether or not we should post a review. We thought it was probably best to hold off and see at least one more issue before posting our thoughts.

After seeing the Walking Dead collector’s covers for issue #2 (Spring 2014) I knew we just had to help spread the word about this zombie themed publication.  Check out the two Collector’s Covers for Issue 2 below:

For those with short attention spans, we love this magazine. Do we recommend buying it? Do the ladies love Daryl Dixon? Absolutely! Let’s take a quick look at our thoughts on ZOMBIES! Magazine.

 

What We Love

Length:  So far each issue is 132 pages of zombie goodness. Just the right length in our opinions.

Info on New Zombie Products Etc.:   Whenever we pick up an issue of ZOMBIES! we see something zombie-related we haven’t seen before. That’s not easy to admit since zombies are our job! There are few examples where someone knows about a zombie product, business or website before we do. It happens at least once with every issue of ZOMBIES! We have to tip our hats because they too have their finger on the pulse of zombie culture. . . or the lack thereof.

Great Balance:   The folks behind ZOMBIES! Magazine provide a near perfect balance of  information on zombie culture,entertainment, survival tips, shopping and advertising. Whether you want behind the scenes information on zombie TV and film, tips on preparing for the zombie apocalypse or just info on the latest zombie merchandise available you’ll find it and more between the covers.

Quality:   The cover art is always beautiful and the entire magazine just feels like the high quality publication that it is.

 

Meh. (What’s Not So Great)

By now you know we give fair and impartial reviews. With the good comes the bad. Here are the few things about Zombies magazine that we aren’t fans of.

Price:   Call us old fashioned, but $9.99 still seems just a little steep for the cover price of a magazine. That said, we know many magazines cost more.  The quality and fact that this isn’t a monthly publication make the price much easier to swallow.

Availability:   Back in August we read that Zombies magazine is available at many popular retailers like Walmart, Target, Walgreens, CVS, 7-11 and many grocery stores etc.  I’ve personally seen and purchased it at local Walmart and Target stores. The problem is they disappear FAST! Most stores around here seem to only get a handful of copies and that can make finding the magazine a challenge at times. The good news is you can order back issues online.

No Subscription Option:   While we love the hunt we can’t help but think it would be so much easier to just subscribe and wait for next issue to arrive in our mailbox.

Final Verdict

In the end there just isn’t much to NOT like about a great walker-centric magazine like this! We love it. Since there were only a few things we weren’t happy with, we gave Zombies a 4.75 out of 5.

  2. I love to read your reviews, you always post the positive and the negative, I don’t like that you can’t get a subscription but hopefully that will change soon, will certainly have to go and order the back issues.
