The folks at Bulls i Toy are known for bringing  some very cool The Walking Dead collectibles to market. They’re the company behind product lines like Walking Dead dog tags, Walking Dead Chibis and the new Walking Dead Windups. Even if you’re not a huge Walking Dead collector you’ll probably recognize other products from Bulls i Toy. They’re also the company responsible for the adorable Zombie Pets line, The Trash Pack and a ton of other awesome toys.

It seems Bulls i Toys churns out cool new Walking Dead collectibles about as fast as fans can buy them up…which is pretty darn fast.   Things come so fast and furious we often poke around The Bulls i website and Facebook page looking for sneak previews and other inside info. While doing so recently we were excited to discover the company is bringing yet another Walking Dead product to store shelves: The Walking Dead Tokens!

There isn’t too much information on their website just yet but it looks like these tokens will be similar to the Transformer tokens offered by Bulls-i. Those tokens are packaged in a blind packaging arrangement which means you’ll never know what you’re going to get in each pack.  For the most part they’re packaged randomly.  The Transformer tokens are sold in packs of four and include a “virtual token” in each pack. Fans can download an app on their mobile device and scan the virtual token to watch a character come to life on a tablet, phone or other mobile device.

It looks like The Walking Dead tokens will be pretty much the same setup.
According to the “Sneak Peek” section of the Bulls-i-Toy website, each package of The Walking Dead tokens will include a virtual token that fans can scan to watch a walker come to life:

“Scan the virtual token in each pack with the scanit app! Your walker will come to life on your device.”

It seems the “scanit” app will also keep track of your collection in a virtual checklist which should be very cool! No more keeping a paper checklist in your purse or wallet. Starz/Anchor Bay have announced the upcoming Walking Dead Seasons 1-3 Blu-ray Box set. The 11 disc set features an exclusive free T-shirt and will have a manufacturer suggested retail price of $149.99. We’re pretty confident you’ll be able to score this one at a significant savings if you pre-order and do your homework. The release date is currently set for June 3rd, 2014. We currently don’t have any info as to whether this box set will include any special bonus or exclusive featurettes or bonus footage but we’ll update you if and when we have more info.

Walking Dead collectors and vinyl collectors rejoice! The Walking Dead Original Soundtrack: Volume 1 is coming to deluxe vinyl LP in April! Thanks to the folks at SPACELAB9 we’ll be seeing several variations of the soundtrack on vinyl.. The soundtrack has previously been released on CD by Universal Public Records and a now long sold out edition of special Picture Disc LPS from SPACELAB9. The collecting fun (or aggravation depending on how you look at it) continues with the vinyl pressing of The Walking Dead Soundtrack – Volume 1. Think it’s going to be as easy as picking up a single copy. Think again my collecting friend!

Limited editions of “Black Smoke” and a very cool “Blood Red” colored vinyl will be available in limited supply in stores. Are you a hardcore Walking Dead collector? Season 4 of AMC’s The Walking Dead returns on February 9th, 2014. To get fans fired up, AMC unveiled the promo poster for the second half of Season 4 today, which is pictured aboe. The poster features Carl (Chandler Riggs) and Rick Grimes (played by Andrew Lincoln) walking down a set of railroad tracks along with the tagline: “Don’t Look Back” which is what Rick tells Carl as they are leaving the prison at the end of the Season 4 mid-season finale.

The release of the poster comes a month after AMC released the Mid-Season Premiere trailer for Season 4:

Did you know everyone around the world can register to take a real online college course based on AMC’s hit zombie TV series, The Walking Dead? The best part is it’s FREE! No I’m NOT kidding and no it isn’t for any actual college credit. It’s coming this October and is a real course taught by real UC Irvine Physics, Public Health and Social Sciences professors.

The University of California Irvine is offering a multiple discipline course using The Walking Dead as a jumping off point for examples and discussion. The 8 week long course, entitled, “Society, Science, Survival: Lessons from AMC’s The Walking Dead” starts Monday October 14th which is the day after the Season 4 premiere here in the United States. It finishes on December 20th, 2013.

Here’s a portion of the official course description:

From understanding social identities to modeling the spread of disease, this eight-week course will span key science and survival themes using AMC’s The Walking Dead as its basis. Four faculty members from the University of California, Irvine will take you on an inter-disciplinary academic journey deep into the world of AMC’s The Walking Dead, exploring the following topics:

Maslow’s hierarchy of needs—is survival just about being alive?
Social order and structures—from the farm and the prison to Woodbury
Social identity, roles, and stereotyping—as shown through leaders like Rick and the Governor
The role of public health in society—from the CDC to local community organizations
The spread of infectious disease and population modeling—swarm!
The role of energy and momentum in damage control—how can you best protect yourself?
Nutrition in a post-apocalyptic world—are squirrels really good for you?
Managing stress in disaster situations—what’s the long-term effect of always sleeping with one eye open?
Each week we’ll watch engaging lectures, listen to expert interviews, watch exclusive interviews with cast members talking about their characters, use key scenes from the show to illustrate course learning, read interesting articles, review academic resources, participate in large and small group discussions, and—of course—test our learning with quizzes. We recommend that you plan on spending about two (2) to four (4) hours per week on this course, though we believe the course is compelling enough you’ll want to spend more time.

The course is part of a growing trend of MOOC’s or “Massive Open Online Courses”. With last season’s Walking Dead season finale boasting over 5 million viewers this is likely to be one of the largest MOOC’s in history if even a fraction of viewers sign up. This is a cool little experiment that is most assuredly a way to gain exposure for both AMC and UC Irvine, but we’re all for it. It has to be fun and what zombie fan can’t use a little good old fashioned higher edjumuhcation with their favorite zombie TV show? I’m registered already and can’t wait! Universal Studios recently announced that AMC’s hit television show, The Walking Dead, will return to the Universal Studios Hollywood and Universal Orlando Resort “Halloween Horror Nights.”

Fans of The Walking Dead will be treated to new mazes inspired by season 3 of the show.  Scenarios will include the prison, the wilderness surrounding the prison and the too good to be true streets of Woodbury, Georgia.

The Walking Dead domination doesn’t end there. For the first time in it’s history, the entire Halloween Horror Nights street experience at Universal Orlando Resort will be dedicated to a single popular TV show. The street experience at Universal Orlando will feature popular scenes from the first 3 seasons of The Walking Dead. Examples include downtown Atlanta, Hershel’s barn and more!

Hyundai and Robert Kirkman’s The Walking Dead franchise have teamed up yet again. This time they’re bringing gamers a new app called “The Walking Dead Chop Shop.”

The app lets you customize Hyundai vehicles with parts in an effort to build the ultimate zombie apocalypse survival machine. You can currently choose 3 different base vehicles and use around 300 different parts to make your ride zombie proof. Some of the more notable Chop Shop vehicle parts include a horde plow, machetes, automatic crossbows, a flamethrower and more! True fans of The Walking Dead comic will be rewarded for their loyalty. Gamers can answer trivia questions from The Walking Dead comics to earn more points and unlock exclusive parts for their rides.

Of course the app doesn’t stop at simply building a zombie apocalypse survival vehicle. Once you’ve built your zombie dream machine you can pit your car against other zombie survivalists and interact with apocalyptic storylines. You’ll be given a “survivability score” to see how your zombie survival vehicle stacks up against zombies and other players.

There’s also a cool sharing feature. You can share your vehicle in the Chop Shop gallery where many vehicles are shared right on the The Walking Dead Chop Shop website! Robert Kirkman himself will reportedly be choosing one zombie survivalist’s zombie vehicle design to be built for New Your Comic-Con. Zombie fans can also share their vehicle to Facebook and Twitter and compete with their friends.
