October is already awesome. The Walking Dead returns with new episodes, postseason baseball is in full swing, The Walking Dead comic continues to celebrate 10 years and issue #115 and it all peaks with all of the fun activities surrounding  Halloween. As if October wasn’t great enough already, we decided to cram even more awesome into the tenth month of the year with a ton of epic zombie giveaways! Why? Because we kick @$$ and we want everyone to know it!

We’ve had it! We’re one of…if not THE best zombie site on the internet. ZombieGift.com has grown leaps and bounds in the past two years and we don’t plan on going anywhere. Thousands have fallen victim to the infectious zombie awesomeness that is ZombieGift.com and we won’t stop until the ZombieGift.com outbreak reaches pandemic proportions.

To help continue growing the horde, and to reward all of you who are already shambling along with us, we’ve decided to put together a group of zombie giveaways the likes of which you’ve never seen! We’re calling it “October Outbreak” and if it’s successful enough for us and enjoyable enough for all of you, it might just become an annual tradition here.

Spend a few minutes browsing etsy and similar sites and you’ll quickly come to the conclusion that there are a lot of talented, creative and gifted zombie fans out there.  The best zombie gifts often aren’t the mass produced variety. Sometimes the best and most unique zombie gift is the one that is crafted by hand with love in someone’s home, garage, workshop or tiny studio.  These handmade zombie gifts aren’t churned out by factories. They’re  made by passionate mothers, single parents, and families and individuals that make these gifts as a way to supplement their income.  They’re also made by people that love zombie culture and do this is as a hobby.

These types of sellers usually lack the funds to advertise their products to the masses.  Advertising is very expensive.   It’s also very difficult to target zombie minded buyers with traditional advertising.  (What good is handing over fistfuls of hard earned cash for advertising when the people seeing it aren’t interested in what your selling in the first place?)

At ZombieGift.com we’ve managed to find a way to solve both problems. Etsy sellers and other handmade zombie entreprenueurs con now list their handmade zombie gifts in our new “Handmade zombie gifts” category at ZombieGift.com.  The listings are very affordable. Why are we doing this?

For the reasons listed above and many more!  I’m no stranger to handmade zombie gifts. I sell handmade zombie gifts myself and know firsthand how difficult it can be to reach zombie fans via conventional marketing.  This new service on our site helps me so why not help the rest of my handcrafting zombie friends and colleagues?

Another reason we came up with this idea is to help those shopping for unique zombie gifts and collectibles.  We are dedicated to becoming the website’s premiere destination for zombie shoppers. When it comes to shopping for zombie gifts, internet users end up at our site.   Unfortunately most of the items on our site are mass produced or produced in a factory.  Many visitors to our site simply won’t know how many awesome handmade zombie gifts exist out there without us showing them!

Of course there’s more to it than a big heart, a love of zombies and wanting to help others.   There are more selfish reasons than that. We’re not going to get rich doing this but we do have to charge something for our time.  The small revenue generated with this service helps us to offset webhosting costs and can also go toward giveaway prizes.  We want to offer bigger, better zombie giveaways even more frequently than we do now. This will help us do that!

If your are a dedicated visitor to the site you’ve probably noticed a slightly new at ZombieGift.com and here on our blog.  Earlier this week we did some spring cleaning and site updates. The most noticeable changes are probably the slightly different look. We changed the color scheme slightly and added a background with some blood smeared at the left side.

We also changed the menu here and at ZombieGift.com to make browsing zombie gift categories easier. It should now be even easier to find that great zombie gift you are looking for! While we’re done with changes for the time being we aren’t sure we like this look permanently. We’ll likely be changing our look and our logo at some point in the future.

We also went to a gorgeous full width image slider on the main page of the site and this blog. Recently added zombie gifts and recent posts are featured on this slider. We also fixed the annoying glitch where the images in the old slider would stack up vertically for a second or two on site load.

Most of the changes we made to the sites were boring changes to the backend that you’ll never see. We made all kinds of changes behind the scenes that made the site faster and much smoother.

We hope you like the new user experience and look for more improvements in the future.
