Josh Wise No. 98 Zombie Zombucks Nascar Car Zombie News

When you think of zombies you probably imagine ugly creatures slowly shuffling and shambling along.  It may be time to re-think the whole slow zombie thing.  We doubt zombies will ever move faster than they do on the new Zombucks zombie themed Nascar car Josh Wise will be driving from August 23rd through November 2nd, 2014.  Thanks to Provident Metals, a leading dealer of gold and silver bullion, the number 98 car of Phil Parsons Racing’s Josh Wise will be decked out in a very cool , Zombucks: Currency of The Apocalypse zombie theme.

The car will sport an awesome apocalyptic looking rusted diamond plate armor background across most of  the top. The  rusty and corroded diamond plate theme stretches from the hood and up to the a-pillar area before continuing toward the rear of the car.  The tough apocalyptic look of the top of the car is balanced well with a clean white middle section before the entire theme is finished off with a bold splash of color, bright neon green diamond plate toward the bottom front chin spoiler and sideskirt areas at the bottom of the car. Of course, Josh’s Number 98 is prominently displayed too.  It appears on the roof and sides of the car in black numbers outlined with a bold and bright blue color.

Zombucks Zombie Themed Nacar Josh Wise #98 Zombie Nascar Zombie News

The highlight of this car will definitely be the zombie coin images. The latest release in the Zombucks: Currency of the Apocalypse series, The Murk Diem, is plastered on the hood of this sweet ride  along with the Zombucks logo and a biohazard symbol.  Images of the Provident Metals logo and the Zombucks Walker and Zombuff silver proofs occupy the rear quarter panel area.   This is one situation where no rear-view  mirrors and huge blind spots are a good thing.  If they were present, the other drivers would surely be busy admiring the terrifying zombie car chasing them down on race day. They’ll just have to trust their spotters to keep this zombie off their rear . We can honestly say we hope Josh Wise sits out front in every race from at least August 23rd until November 2nd.  That will ensure everyone on the track gets a good view of his awesome undead ride!

Josh will race with Provident Metals as his primary sponsor for four races through November 2nd:

  • August 23rd, 2014 – Irwin Tools Night Race at Bristol Motor Speedway in Tennessee
  • September  6th, 2014 – Federated Auto Parts 400 at Richmond International Raceway in Virginia
  • October 11th, 2014 – Bank of America 500 at Charlotte Motor Speedway in North Carolina
  • November 2nd, 2014 – AAA Texas 500 at Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth

Do some of these names sound familiar? That’s probably because we’ve reviewed a couple of the gorgeous ZOMBUCKS, zombie themed precious metal bullion rounds from Provident Metals. We recently reviewed their latest release in the Zombucks line, The Murk Diem, and were blown away with the quality of this affordable round.  To learn more about the Zombucks line visit ProvidentMetals.com

Banned Norwegian XXL Zombie Commercial
Apparently citizens of Norway are much less tolerant of zombies and what airs on TV compared to those of us in the United States. Back in 2012, sporting goods retailer, XXL, ran the following zombie themed commercial in an effort to garner the attention of a younger audience. Viewers reacted with disapproval and XXL ended up pulling the commercial from family orientated programming airing before 9:00 pm. You can watch the commercial here:

My initial thoughts are this zombie commercial is pretty tame. It has decent production value and it’s somewhat comical . . . even if it doesn’t make much sense. Zombies attack with sporting goods? I’m not sure zombies are going to bother attacking the living by driving golf balls. Heck I’m a living breathing human with a decent command of my nervous system and normal voluntary skeletal muscle control and I still can’t manage to hit a golf ball off a tee with any sort of consistent accuracy! 😉

All kidding aside, this commercial just seems pretty ho-hum from my jaded American point of view. This certainly doesn’t seem like anything we’d consider offensive or inappropriate here in the U.S. I see MUCH worse than this when flipping through basic cable after school with my son. I see a ton of commercials that play during cartoons that have NO business being aired when and where they are. I’d welcome this zombie commercial over much of what I see.

That being said, the XXL zombie commercial caused a mini uproar with Norwegians. Viewers considered the commercial inappropriate, violent, “irrelevant”, “vulgar”, “stupid” and just plain unacceptable for airing during family oriented programming.

This commercial (which, ironically, was shot in America) seems like something most of us in the U.S. wouldn’t bat an eye at. People in Norway didn’t appreciate it and good for Norwegians for speaking up and good for XXL for actually listening! They promptly decided to stop airing the commercial during family oriented television programs and pulled it from spots airing before 9:00 pm. I’m not sure why all the related stories I read insist on saying the commercial was “banned”. Based on the related stories we read it sounds like XXL simply chose to listen to the people and made a choice to “ban” the commercial from airing during early family oriented program themselves. That being said we aren’t beyond joining in on the sensationalism 2 years late…and we choose to use the misleading term as well. It’s “journalism” at its finest!

Now here’s my take. If you or your child are overly sensitive you could choose to see this 2 year old zombie commercial as offensive. If I try hard enough I suppose I could be offended that a golf club swinging corpse lost his upper limbs. Or I could choose to see the positive aspects of this little video promotion. The commercial clearly depicts a sense of community and teamwork It also promotes getting off the couch and going out and picking up some sporting good equipment. Sure there is a little gore and some pretend violence against fictional undead hordes. I’d much rather sit and talk to my child about this zombie commercial than try to explain what airs during commercial spots here in the U.S. I shouldn’t need to explain to a 4 or 5 year old what “an erection lasting more than 4 hours” is. I also have no interest in trying to explain away what those two people were doing in bed or why the half naked men and women need to be half naked on TV. A little zombie fun? I’ll take that any day.

What are YOUR thoughts? Is this commercial inappropriate or offensive? Was the criticism of Norwegian viewers warranted? Was it all just a publicity stunt? Let us know what you think by leaving a comment below!

As if The Walking Dead franchise doesn’t take enough of our money already, officially licensed Walking Dead slot machines are now invading casinos!  First announced back in June, the new Walking Dead slot machine from Aristocrat caused a big buzz on day one of G2E 2013, a global gaming and gambling convention and expo.  The Walking Dead slot machine is based on season one of AMC’s The Walking Dead and is sure to be a hit with gambling and zombie fans alike.

In true Walking Dead style, Aristocrat wasn’t content with simply unveiling the zombie themed slot machines at The Global Gaming Expo 2013. They hired zombie actors to walk to G2e, “attack” taxis and pedestrians and to shamble about the expo floor.

Boost Mobile of Australia has joined in on the zombie marketing craze that seems to continue to sweep the globe much like the an actual zombie pandemic.  Boost Mobile Australia has created a series of short zombie mini-movie commercials that help you stay living in a zombie apocalypse.  The videos are part of a”Stay Living” marketing campaign to help promote the company’s UNLTD Talk, Text & MMS plans. The campaign urges it’s target audience “Don’t get trapped. Don’t be locked in. Stay  Living.”

The important thing here is the videos feature zombies, gore, and even some pretty cute women including a hot red head I wouldn’t mind having at my side while surviving the zombie apocalypse. 😉 You can view the videos below or go to BoostStayLiving.com to view all the videos. However, that URL just redirects to their YouTube page.

Check the videos out below. Please note these are the uncensored versions probably most suitable for viewers over the age of 18..or at least that’s what the disclaimers at the start of the videos say. The videos have a link to a censored version at the start or you can always search for the censored versions on the Boost Mobile Australia YouTube page.

View Saff and Jen’s Video:

View Ben’s Video:

Along with the zombie videos there is also a minor  “Stay Living” zombie rework of the Boost Mobile Australia YouTube page and website. They are also running a zombie themed sweepstakes where entrants can “Create the best Zombie survival kit & Win a Dirt Bike or $5k shopping Raid”.  I’m guessing this sweepstakes has to be entered via facebook and is only available to residents of Australia. When we click the links here in the U.S. we’re directed to facebook’s home page in the U.S. and not the Boost Mobile of Australia facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/boostaus

Ruthless motorcycle riding zombie slaying redheads, women wearing hot pants while rollerskating and bashing zombie skulls with cricket bats, girls kissing girls, dirt bikes with dual machetes and lots of zombies….Boost Mobile sure knows how to do things right!  To my knowledge this campaign hasn’t made it to the U.S. yet but here’s hoping it does. We can always use more zombies to brighten our day!

What do you think of the videos? Which is your favorite? Let us know in the comments section below!

Many of you will recall about 10 days ago we posted to excitedly inform you about Capcom’s London “Blood Pool” marketing event for the Resident Evil Revelations video game. A large pool was going to be filled with blood colored water and floating fake body parts. About 200 attendees were invited to dive down to the bottom of the pool to retrieve and keep Resident Evil collectibles.

Unfortunately the event, scheduled for this weekend in London has been cancelled. Capcom decided to pull the plug due to
a bloody machete attack on a British armed forces member that happened in nearby Woolwich.

Capcom officials stated:

In light of yesterday’s sad events we’re cancelling our Revelations pool event. Thank you for your understanding.— Capcom UK

Never one to shy away from gory marketing stunts, Capcom has done it again with their latest promotional effort. To generate buzz for the upcoming video game, Resident Evil: Revelations the company has decided to fill a London swimming pool with “blood” and invite fans to dive for prizes and collectibles.

Of course the swimming pool, located near London’s Olympic Stadium, isn’t really filled with actual blood. The water is simply colored red to look like blood. Fake body parts such as eyeballs and human torsos will bob around to complete the gory illusion. The best part? Fans can even dive down to the bottom of the pool to retrieve Resident Evil collectibles that they can take home!

It’s not too often I find myself wishing I lived somewhere other than the USA, but this is definitely one of those times!

The event is scheduled to take place Saturday May 25th and Sunday May 26, 2013. Interested in obtaining free tickets for this event? You’d better act fast. The event is limited to just 100 attendees each day. That means only 200 lucky people will get to participate! Attendees must be 16 years of age or older and anyone under 18 needs to be accompanied by an adult. For details on ordering tickets visit this site: http://residentevil.eventbrite.com/#

Goggles and towels will be available but participants are encouraged to bring their own if they don’t like these items used and spattered and stained with fake blood.

The official statement from Capcom reads as follows:

Capcom are thrilled to able to create the world’s first blood swimming pool. Zombies have been kept very busy lately doing a variety of PR stunts, so rather than do the expected, we wanted to give them some time off for canal side relaxation in London. To non-zombies, the swimming pool will be shocking, gory and an incredibly disturbing experience – the perfect way to show that survival horror is back with a bang for Resident Evil Revelations.

This marketing effort is being used to promote the upcoming release of Resident Evil Revelations on Xbox 360, WiiU, PS3 and PC. The release date is set for May 21 in the U.S and May 24 in the UK. This release is basically the fan favorite Nintendo 3DS version ported over to console. Check out a trailer below:

Swimming around in fake blood AND free Resident Evil collectibles? That sounds like a great weekend afternoon to me! What are your thoughts? Are you attending or would you if you lived close enough? Let us know in the comments section below!:

For those who don’t know, Georgia is hot right now. I’m not talking temperature, but popularity in the world of tourism and travel hot spots.   Since The Walking Dead has been filming there it’s become a sort of zombie mecca. The folks at the Georgia Department of Economic Development have had the foresight to take advantage of this in order to promote tourism in their beautiful part of the country.

In case you missed it, they’ve published a Zombie/Walking Dead themed 2013 Travel Guide. It features Andrew Lincoln and some walkers on the front cover. You can view a digital copy online right now or even request a free print version be mailed to you!  I heard about this at the beginning of the year and it totally slipped my mind until a fan recently reminded me about it about a month ago.  Fearing they would be long gone I hurriedly requesting mine online and it arrived in the mail a few short days later.  I was shocked how fast it came because the website mentions it arriving within nine days. Whenever dealing with the USPS or any government agency I automatically double the expected time. Needless to say I was shocked at how fast it arrived.

They sent not only the travel guide but also a full  2013-2014 Official Georgia Highway and Transportation Map published by the Georgia Department of Transportation, a Georgia State Parks & Historic Sites booklet, and a “Welcome to the Governor’s Mansion card with information about touring the The Georgia’s Governor’s Mansion. It all came in a very cool Georgia peach envelope. Check it all out in the photos below:

My travel guide had a little damage (a crease in the middle ad some damaged corners, but that’s due to the Postal Service’s handling more than anything. (My mail carrier jammed mine into our mailbox folded in half lengthwise.  It’s a common hobby she also enjoys partaking in with my beloved issues of The Walking Dead Magazine as well!)

free-georgia-walking-dead-2013-travel-guide-3b

The travel guide mainly features a The Walking Dead themed cover.  On page 10 there’s a cool little article about the 40 year history of television and film making in Georgia. It features a short little blurb from Andrew Lincoln about how much he loves filming on location in Senoia and surrounding locations. There’s not much zombie content beyond that. It is, after all, a travel guide.

walking-dead-georgia-travel-guide-2013-inside

That being said it’s actually a great travel guide.  I was shocked to see how many cool things there are to see and do in Georgia.  I’ve been through the northwestern corner of the Peach State twice in my life but never more than passing through.  I’ve always wanted to take an opportunity to stay and see the sights.

I was kicking around the idea of taking my son to see some of the The Walking Dead filming locations and possibly to Savannah, Georgia on our way back for it’s paranormal and historical reputation.   I was on the fence until I received this travel guide.  There is so much to see and do in Georgia I’ve pretty much decided I’ll have to find a way to save some money and make a  trip to see more of what the state has to offer! I’ve definitely got “Georgia on my mind” now!

Click here to view the travel guide online.  If you want your own free copy of The Walking Dead 2013 Georgia Travel Guide simply visit their site at exploregeorgia.org/brochures.    Near the top you should see the Travel Guide in the “Featured Brochures” section. If not, do a quick search or try this link to request your free print copy: http://www.exploregeorgia.org/order-brochure/featured/free-2013-georgia-travel-guide-zombies.

If you’re a Walking Dead collector thinking about a visit to Georgia I would highly recommend requesting the print version.  Just please remember the idea here is to promote Georgia tourism and commerce.  If you’re a Walking Dead fan requesting the guide solely for collecting with no intention of visiting the state please reconsider. At the very least please find a way to support the Georgia economy in return for your free travel guide. I have no idea how long these will be available so I’d act fast just in case!

By now you’re probably familiar with the Sun Drop soda commercials. They’re really well known for the weird girl with the headband dancing to Snoop Dogg’s song, “Drop It Like It’s Hot”. Last night I was watching a little TV and my attention was immediately drawn to a commercial with the tagline “Stocking up for a Zombie Apocalypse party? Hashtag SUPRISINGLY GOOD!”

It turns out Sun Drop has a new zombie themed commercial and I just had to share. You can catch the video right now on YouTube. Of course we’re awesome so I’ve posted the video below. The good folks over at Sun Drop even have it posted in 3D so turn that option on if you want! Too cool!

Of course some knuckleheads are already claiming this commercial is racist. I totally disagree. It’s just a fun commercial with zombies and I thought I’d share.
What are your thoughts? Let us know in the comment section below. No matter what …zombies sure beats “Drop It Like It’s Hot” in my book any day of the week!

It’s no secret zombies are big business in the world of firearms. Zombie versions of everything from ammo, to scopes and targets are available.  In mid January of this year Mossberg® jumped onto the zombie bandwagon and announced its new ZMB line of firearms. It seems Mossberg has teamed up with Zombie Industries to bring the firearm world zombie themed guns.  At first I was a little worried. I’m always a little on the fence when it comes to mixing the whole zombie theme and real firearms.

Zombie targets and ammo are one thing, but I get a little nervous when we start talking full fledged zombie themed guns.  Don’t get me wrong. I love zombies. I also love shooting. I just happen to be a very responsible shooter who takes things very seriously whenever I’m at the range or holding a potentially deadly weapon in my hand.  Actual zombie themed guns could be really cool or they could be a recipe for disaster. There is a fine line between following a marketing trend to make a cool gun and making a mockery of firearms.

I was relieved to see these Mossberg guns are very low key. In fact they’re almost too much so. The ZMB line consists of little but two existing tactical shotguns and a fully synthetic lever action .30-30 with a lime green ZMB logo on them. I’m somewhat disappointed and relieved at the same time.  Although seeing an over the top production zombie gun would be fun, it would be equally scary knowing some over enthusiastic idiot might mistake it for a toy or temporarily lose touch with reality while running around the woods hunting zomibes.

Mossberg took the subtle approach and simply slapped a cool lime green/neon green ZMB logo on the receivers of these guns. The ZMB line consists of the 464™ ZMB lever-action rifle, the 500® ZMB 8-Shot pump-action shotgun and the 500 Chainsaw ZMB 6-Shot pump-action shotgun. Each gun features fully synthetic stocks and forends for durability and ease of cleaning.

Mossberg 464 ZMB Lever-Action Rifle

The 464 ZMB is a cool new take on the classic lever action rifle. This .30-30 is fully blacked out with a black oxide receiver, matte blued metal and a quick adjusting 6 position synthetic stock. The Picatinny tri-rail forend comes complete with rubber ladder rail covers. The 464 has a compact 16 ¼-inch barrel with removable A-2 style flash suppressor and a 6 round capacity. There’s also 3-dot fiber optic sights included are you may prefer to mount a scope on the scope rail that’s already provided on the receiver.

The 464 ZMB has a unique look that you’ll probably either love or hate. I happen to fall into the former category because I love the way this thing looks. While I wouldn’t give up my trusted shotgun I would definitely want one of these short barreled beauties in my zombie survival kit. Mount a light, laser or whatever else you want to one of the rails and get moving!

500® ZMB 8-Shot pump-action shotgun

500® ZMB is basically a zombie themed version of Mossberg’s 500 Persuader 12 gauge 3″ pump-action shotgun.  It features an 8 round extended capacity magazine so you’ll have a little extra breathing room if you miss in the heat of the moment. The 500 ZMB has a standard full-length black synthetic stock and tactical Picatinny-compatible tri-rail forend that’s perfect for mounting a light or other tactical goodies. This bad boy is a no frills point and shoot zombie defense weapon: simply point the 20-inch cylinder bore barrel’s bead sight at whatever you want dead. No fancy sights here!

500 Chainsaw ZMB

Finally, we have the 500 Chainsaw ZMB.  This is basically Mossberg’s 500 Cruiser®  with a removable chainsaw grip and ZMB logo.  This  3″, 12-gauge pistol gripped shotgun has a 6 round capacity and a ton of tactical features.  Most obvious is the unique Chainsaw styled forend grip. The tactical tri-rail forend has an integral full-length bottom rail and removable side rails. The ergonomic pistol grip and forend are fully synthetic for extra durability.     The 500 Chainsaw ZMB has a compact 18 ½ inch stand-off barrel with single white dot sight. To fulfill all your tactical zombie killing needs the Chainsaw ZMB also includes a tactical light and laser combo.

While it looks kind of cool, I’m not sure I’m sold on the chainsaw grip. It’s intended to offer the shooter more barrel control, but I’m not sure I’d like it personally.  It just looks like it would be awkward. That being said, I’ve never shot a pistol grip shotgun with a chainsaw grip, so I suppose I should reserve my opinion until I’ve actually used it. If Mossberg wants to send one over for review I’ll happily fill out all the required paperwork 😉

Overall I’m very proud of Mossberg and ZMB (Zombie Industries) for not jumping the shark on this one. They easily could have gone the wrong way and made a monstrosity more worthy of a carton or video game than real life. Instead they kept things very subtle and created a low key line of zombie themed spin-offs. Great job guys, but next time we might even be OK with just a little more zombieness. Maybe a small and subtle zombie silhouette or biohazard symbol on the receiver or barrel to spice things up a little more?

What do you guys think about the ZMB line? Which one is your favorite and would be your first choice if the zombie $h!t ever hits the fan? Let us know in the comments section below!
