We love zombies mode in Activision’s Call of Duty Black Ops video game franchise. When we heard about the new Black Ops 4 zombies Mystery Box edition we could barely contain our undead excitement. Let’s just say we pre-ordered a few. Long story short, we ended up with more Black Ops 4 Private Beta codes than we needed.

Although the beta doesn’t provide access to zombies mode at this time, we’re still ready to spread the Black Ops 4 love with a beta code giveaway!

This week brought good news for fans of the  zombie and post pandemic video game genres.  Sony unveiled gameplay from the upcoming PS4 exclusive game, Days Gone.

This latest project from Bend Studio shows some promising open world play sure to please fans of zombie video games.  Sony also published a blog post outling the plot synopsis of  Days Gone:

 “Set in the beautiful, volcanic scarred high-desert of the Pacific Northwest, Days Gone is an open-world action-adventure game where you play as Deacon St. John, a Drifter and bounty hunter who would rather risk the dangers of the broken road than live in one of the “safe” wilderness encampments. The game takes place two years after a global pandemic has killed almost everyone, but transformed millions of others into what survivors call Freakers – mindless, feral creatures, more animal than human but very much alive and quickly evolving.”

While they may not officially be called “zombies” the feral infected human “Freakers” are close enough to meet our definition and definitely close enough to creep us out. If there is one form of infected that makes us quiver every time it is runners. Flesh hungry infected with the ability to sprint is the stuff nightmares are made of. What’s worse than that? Hordes of fast infected working together by the hundreds.
 
 

Days Gone E3 Gameplay Footage:

The gameplay from Days Gone seems to indicate this game may have the ability to creep out even seasoned zombie and horror game fans and that’s something that isn’t easily done. Check out the gameplay footage revealed at E3 2016 below:

Days Gone Release Date:

An official Days Gone release date hasn’t been revealed yet but online sources for pre-ordering are pointing to a Holiday 2016 or late December 2016 release date with some sites listing December 26th and December 29th as potential release dates. We cannot wait to get our hands on this game and we’ll keep you posted when we learn more!

Zombie Army Trilogy is an upcoming zombie shooter video game from Rebellion, one of Europe’s leading video game developers.  PC gamers and zombie fans are likely already familiar with the Nazi Army and Nazi Army 2 titles.  Zombie Army Trilogy brings remastered versions of these two games along with an entirely new third campaign. There are new enemies, new animations and new graphical effects!

The best news of all surrounding Zombie Army Trilogy is the fact that it brings this classic zombie video game series to consoles. Xbox One and PlayStation 4 gamers will now be able to play this awesome Zombie video game franchise.

Zombie Army Trilogy releases on digitally on March 6th, 2014. Download for PC via Steam, for Xbox One via Xbox Live, and for PS4 via the PlayStation store on Friday March 6th, 2015.

There was some buzz regarding the possibility of a full retail release here in the U.S. but so far little progress seems to have been made. We reached out to Rebellion on Twitter and they promptly replied back that they’re still working on finding a U.S. distributor for a full boxed retail version.

It looks like we’ll just have to settle for digital access on March 6th here in the U.S. since a boxed physical copy of the game doesn’t appear to be an option for Americans any time soon.

Be The Zombie in Dying Light!

Fans of the zombie video game genre don’t really need another reason to be excited for the upcoming Dying Light game. They got one anyway this week when WB Games and Techland officially announced the addition of “Be the Zombie” mode in the multiplayer portion for those who pre-order.
Be the Zombie is a player versus player game mode addition that allows players to stalk other players as special breed of zombie: the Night Hunter. These lethal predator zombies are bigger, faster and just plain badder. They have a unique set of skills that can apparently be upgraded as players progress.

While playing as a zombie isn’t really all that new in a video game, it appears the developers behind Dying Light have made it much more interesting. The official trailer video shows Night Stalkers streaking across roof-tops, jumping high in the air, pounding the ground high to send enemies flying back and more. One of the most unique features demonstrated shows the Night Stalker zombies zipping quickly from point to point using a tentacle like apparatus on their arm that shoots out to allow them to rapidly pull themselves forward across great distances. The Spider-Man like quality of the Night Stalker definitely can’t be missed in the trailer which you can view below:

Be the Zombie mode allows players to “invade” other player’s games adding yet another layer of creativity and strategy to gameplay.

We can definitely see some similarities between this game and past zombie games. We can also see some ways Dying Light is attempting to breathe new life into undead gaming. What are YOUR thoughts? In H1Z1 you’re a post zombie apocalypse survivor just trying to survive another day. Just how you go about it will be up to you. Choose to find a group of survivors and cooperate in a community or be a lone wolf and attempt to survive with the only person you know you can trust: yourself.

The best news yet regarding H1Z1 is probably the fact that the game is going to be free to play when fully released. Certain add ons will be be available for purchase but they won’t be necessary to play and win!

Sony recently released the Last of Us Remastered trailer at E3.  As if the extras and the ability to play this game in full 1080p wasn’t cool enough, the trailer has a rendition of “Something in the Way” by Nirvana playing. I’m sold If something gets me to change my ways and head over to the PS4 side of console gaming, it would be The Last of Us.

The Last of Us Remastered will be available July 29th, 2014.

Dead Island 3 Announcement Trailer:

The protagonist this time around is Max, along with his companion, a cat named Rick Furry. While the title “Dead Island 2” and cats named “Rick Furry” don’t exactly scream originality, we’re hoping all the creativity is being saved for the gameplay itself.

Max isn’t immune to the zombie virus but there are Berzerker, Hunter, Bishop and Speeder heroes that are. Of course zombies aren’t the only threat. Players will need to worry about the US Goverment and miltarized factions eager to gun you down should you get in their way.

Dead Island 2 Weapons:

What about weapons? Of course there are many melee weapons since that’s always the focus of Dead Island games in the past. There will also be some firearms such as an AK47 and projectile weapons like a  flame powered crossbow. (I’ll hold Daryl Dixon jokes until my first play through.) New additions to the weapons system in Dead Island 2 include the ability to dual wield and the addition of motorized weapons.  Similar to the weapons crafting system in Dead Rising (and 90% of other zombie video games out there) you’ll have the ability to make some crazy weapons with things like chainsaws, hedge clippers and more.

Yager claims they’re going to make combat much more entertaining this go around which will hopefully be an improvement from the clunky and sometimes annoying battles in previous versions of Dead Island.  Other new improvements include a new “fury attack” for heroes and “Social Multiplayer.”  The latter allows up to 8 players share a single map and they can choose to compete, coexist or cooperate.

Dead Island 2 Release Date:

At the time of this post there is no definitive release date for Dead Island 2 which will be available on Xbox One, PS4 and PC. Yager has simply stated the release date window is currently planned for Spring of 2015.

Players will once again play as Lee Everett in an attempt to protect Clementine. All major events from Season One of Telltale’s Walking Dead will be revisited…only as pinball game this time!

Do you think things will ever get back to how they were? – Clementine

Yesterday Telltale Games releases a short teaser trailer for the upcoming Second Season of their Walking Dead game. Check the trailer out below:

Season 2 continues the story of Clementine, a young girl that has been orphaned and left to fend for herself in the zombie apocalypse.

Season two will pick up “many months” after the events seen in Season One and Clementine is desperately searching for safety. Decisions you make will impact and change the story around you. In fact, the decisions you made in Season One and in 400 days will affect the story in Season two!

The mystery box has inspired many real life tributes and I decided to try my hand at making a real life Call of Duty inspired mini mystery box. I made this one for my son and he currently uses it to store his G.I. Joe action figure weapons in it.

I started with a nice plain wood box.  I then made some fake rusty iron hinges for the top and painted and distressed the finish complete with fake cracks and stains seen on the box in the game. The box features the question marks painted on top, rope handles and metal hinges and front metal clasp closure. Check out some images of the Mystery Box as it appears in game.

Here’s what my Mystery Box looked like when it was completed.  It features the question marks painted on the top as mentioned. It also includes similar stenciling and I’ve detailed it to look similar to the actual video game mystery box. I was going to install some straw or hay in the bottom of the box but I decided to install some material in the bottom that offers the same look without the mess.  The mini mystery box measures about 14″ wide, 4″ tall and 4 1/2″ deep.  There’s just enough room inside to store two Xbox 360 controllers side by side.  The back of the box does depress the left and right trigger buttons if you store the controllers inside but it’s a cool way to store and protect your wireless Xbox 360 controllers!

Of course I wasn’t happy with stopping there. After making the mistake of mentioning to my son that we should try to make the box play the actual Mystery Box song and sound effects I basically had no choice but to figure it out. We installed a sound module and switch behind a false panel in the inside of the mystery box lid. The lid panel is secured with velcro and just enough adhesive to keep it in place. Everything is powered by a single replaceable 9 volt battery. Check out some photos of the box with sounds below:

Open the lid of the box and the mystery box tune and Sam’s Teddy Bear laugh play! Check out the box in action in the video below:

The sound module and small speaker are only capable of a limited degree of sound quality but it works pretty well for our purposes here. Honestly anything louder would be pretty annoying.

So there you have it. Our future plans include painting up a teddy bear to look like the teddy bear that sometimes appears in game. I’m also likely going to add lights in a future version. I’ll post pictures of these in a future update  if and when I have time.
