We first saw these zombie chocolate bars about two years ago and promptly featured them on ZombieGift.com.  Unfortunately we never got around to ordering some of our own to sample. When the good folks over at Sugar Plum Chocolates contacted us to talk business we coudln’t help but ask whether they’d be interested in supplying a bar or two for us to review. They went above and beyond and sent us a couple boxes so we could review and give away to you faithful zombie fans. (More on the giveaway later!)

We tore into these chocolate bars like a horde of hungry flesh eating zombies. When the dust settled we sat back in our chairs and couldn’t help but feel an odd combination of satisfaction and guilt. . . with just maybe a little sugar buzz mixed in. No one should have this much fun while “working”.

I feel like I should preface this review by letting everyone know these are not mass produced garbage churned out on giant conveyor belts. These are handmade chocolate bars crafted with love at Sugar Plum Chocolates in Pennsylvania.  We’d go into some detail on how these are made by hand but that’s necessary because these awesome zombie chocolate bars were actually featured on TV!  Food Network actually did a very cool behind the scenes piece on how these zombie candy bars are made. Check it out below:

Pretty interesting stuff! But enough small talk; Let’s get down to what we thought about these unique zombie themed treats.

Disclaimer: The manufacturer provided free samples in exchange for our  unbiased opinion and thoughts on their product.

Shipment Packaging:

Whenever we ship or order chocolate we worry about the recipient receiving a box of melted mush. No worries with Sugar Plum Chocolates. Our zombie chocolate bars arrived in fantastic condition. Sugar Plum chocolates packed them double boxed with air cushions and packing paper and it was all sealed with packaging tape featuring their logo. Nice! We received  many bars and none were broken or damaged in any way. Kudos to both Sugar Plum Chocolates and the United States Postal Service for doing things right.

Product Packaging:

The packaging on these chocolate bars is simply gorgeous. We admit to keeping the label off our sample bars because they are so cool! The outer wrapper is a high quality full print paper wrapper. No cheap labels slapped on a regular or plain wrapper as you might expect on a zombie themed treat.  The bar wrapper features the Words “Zombie Bar” in a zombie style font with dripping green background. The Green, yellow, purple writing looks great against the dark black and grey background. In the cemetery scene you see a lone zombie hand shadow rising from the grave. Keeping things low profile, you’ll barely notice Sugar Plum Chocolates feature their logo in  the lower right front corner of the wrapper. The back of the wrapper is very cool as well. It features the Zombie Bar text again at the top with the ingredients, nutrition information and company contact information and barcode placed below against a solid black background. It all looks great while being very easy to read.

The candy bar itself is wrapped inside high quality gold colored foil that looks great peeking out either end of the out wrapper. The entire Zombie Chocolate Bar packaging arrangement makes one thing clear: Sugar Plum Chocolates takes their candy making seriously.  You know you’re holding a delicious gourment high quality treat in your hands  before you ever take your first bite.

The Chocolate Bar:

The Zombie Bar is a 2.0  oz (57g) white chocolate candy bar that is dyed a very cool zombie green color. It is somehow just the right shade of subtle and sickly zombie green: it’s not too bright green, nor is it colored too dark. It’s that perfect shade of zombie green that sitting somewhere between green, grey and blue. We like! Each zombie chocolate bar features raised letters on the top spelling out the phrase “Bite Me” in blood red letters. The coloring here is pretty spot on as well. Nothing is too bright or too over the top. With all of the food coloring we were a little worried there would be some after-taste but to our relief those fears were unfounded.

So what did we think of the taste? I should start off by saying none of us are huge white chocolate fans but we kept an open mind. After devouring our review samples we all agreed these are delicious! The white chocolate is creamy and has just the right amount of “melt in your mouth” feeling.  These zombie chocolate bars also feature rice crisp cereal crunchies inside.  We were a  little concerned because we aren’t big fans of certain chocolate bars packed with tons of rice cereal inside. Those concerns were also a waste of time. Sugar Plum Chocolates uses a very small amount of rice cereal inside these bars. It’s just enough to provide some texture and a subtle crunch at times.  These are made how we feel all candy bars containing rice cereal crispies should be. We want to feel like we’re eating a candy bar, not a rice crispy treat. Sugar Plum Chocolates nailed it with a very slight and subtle amount of crispness and crunch.

Our only complaint regarding taste was the sweetness. These bad boys could likely put a small horde of the undead into a diabetic coma. We reminded ourselves these are white chocolate and that’s just the nature of the beast. Not everyone’s sweet tooth is the same and you might find these to be just right. One of the reasons we aren’t big fans of white chocolate is because it is often very sweet so we’re probably a little biased to begin with. Given our choice we’d rather have a semi-sweet or dark chocolate zombie bar but that would mean they couldn’t be such a cool green color.

What’s Great:

• Gorgeous high quality packaging
• High quality manufacturing process with attention to detail
• Great candy bar color
• Just the right amount of rice crisp cereal without being too much

Meh. (What’s Not So Great)

• Sweetness: Holy insulin spike Batman! We tasted each and every gram of the 26 grams of sugar these bars contain. Don’t get me wrong they’re still delicious, but if you don’t like sweet white chocolate you might want to tread lightly. I foolishly blazed into an entire bar.  If you don’t have a massive sweet tooth you could probably eat half a serving and save the other half for later.
• Price: These Zombie Chocolate Bars are a little on the pricey side.  We understand why they’re priced where they. We’re simply mentioning the price because we know how you guys think! You have to keep in mind these aren’t the typical mass produced chocolate bars found at your grocery store checkout line. Therefore they aren’t priced like them. These are unique zombie gifts and gourmet chocolate bars made by hand; the taste and pricing reflect that. At the time of this post a single 2.0 oz  Zombie Bar will set you back about $6.95 on amazon or you can purchase packs of 4  on amazon or directly from Sugar Plum.

Final Verdict: 4 out of 5 stars…err I mean brains.

Overall we loved the Zombie Bar from Sugar Plum Chocolates. Although we found them a little on the sweet side and a little expensive that didn’t keep us from loving these unique zombie gifts. If you are looking for a unique zombie gift for Valentine’s Day, Easter, Christmas, Halloween (or any other occasion) we highly recommend picking some up.

Oh noes!

It looks like “Zed”, the Official ZombieGift.com Rubber Ducky, got into the bath salts. I knew I should have kept a closer eye on him!

Don’t worry because he’s ok…sort of. Just like all the recent news stories indicate, I can verify ingesting bath salt is a very bad idea. This holds especially true for waterfowl.

It all started when I took Zed home with me last weekend. I didn’t want him to be lonely in that dirty bathroom at the office. So I brought him home and left him in the bathroom where, naturally, he felt most at home. Unfortunately I forgot I left my Eucalyptus Mint Mineral Bath Salts open. (Don’t judge me….dudes like to relax too you know!) Of course Zed was attracted to the delicious minty aroma and decided to have himself a snack. The effects were both instantaneous and dramatic.

Once a bright yellow rubber ducky, Zed is now a sickly zombie green and he’s a little worse for the wear. That’s actually pretty cool. What isn’t so cool is his newly acquired taste for human flesh. It turns out it’s pretty selective because he only seems to go after those who aren’t fans of zombies.

Don’t get me wrong, he’s still just as adorable as ever. Unfortunately we just can’t keep him. Keeping at home is no longer an option. Why not? Well it was my son’s friend, Connor, that first discovered Zed’s transformation. Connor just doesn’t like zombies. He’s terrified of zombie movies and calls all of our zombie gifts and collectibles, “lame”. He went to use our bathroom and Zed showed him who the lame duck is. Let’s just say Connor won’t be coming over to play anymore.

Thanks to that incident Animal Control has my place under surveillance. They’re swarming outside like a horde of zombies themselves. Luckily I managed to sneak Zed out and get him back to the office. Unfortunately it’s only a temporary solution.

Unbeknownst to us, Zed had himself a girlfriend and …well….we have a horde of zombie ducks waddling around here. We’re so busy controlling his undead offspring we just can’t protect him and give him the attention he needs.

Worse yet, all of these waddling flesh hungry corpses are staring to attract a lot of attention. They’ve already terrified most of the non-zombie fans we deal with on a daily basis. They’ve attacked the mail-man once, but that wasn’t a big deal. The UPS driver refuses to exit the temple of safety that is his big brown truck. Even more upsetting, the local pizza place has simply refused to stop delivering to us altogether. It seems they’ve lost a few good delivery boys. We won’t even get into what happened to the poor little lass selling Girl Scout cookies to local businesses.

The bad news is Zed has to go. The good news is he’s perfectly harmless to zombie fans. I guess he can sense the good in us! Since we’ve reached 300 facebook page likes and 500 twitter followers this weekend we’ve decided to give Zed away to a good home. We’re even throwing in some extras to help out.

One lucky winner will receive a “The Quacking Dead” Zombie bath set.
The winner receives:

1. Zed: A Hand painted zombie rubber ducky.
2.  One jar of Eucalyptus Mint Scented Bath Salt:  These are the perfect training treat for Zed. Of course you could always pour some into your bath and relax. Whatever you do, just don’t ingest them!
3. One Etched Glass Zombie Jar:  This is perfect for storing the bath salts, storing Zed, or just storing other random stuff in your house with its zombie awesomeness.
4. One zombie green mesh bath pouf/loofah
5. One zombie green plastic basket to store stuff, or just to contain Zed.

Warnings/Precautions:

Remember Zed doesn’t like those who aren’t real zombie fans. If you enter and win and you aren’t a REAL zombie fan he’ll know. When he eats your face don’t blame us.

Zed doesn’t like rough play. He’s a zombie for crying out loud. Throwing him around the house will scratch his paint and he hates that. He’s also not a huge fan of water ever since his transformation. While letting him float around the tub or pool probably won’t hurt him, I’d just keep it safe and limit his bath time.

Don’t ingest the bath salts. They’re for Zed to eat or for you to bathe in. We can’t be held responsible if you ingest the bath salts and run around your neighborhood in a crazed naked zombie daze. Just sayin’…

All of us here at ZombieGift.com want to wish all of our zombie fans, friends and followers a very Happy Easter. We couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate than with a little zombie Easter Bunny Papercraft toy fun.

I personally designed the cool zombie Easter Bunny paper toy show here using a free blank cubeecraft template. I originally made this to put in my son’s Easter basket. When it was done I thought it was cool enough to share with all of you!  I wanted this to be a zombified Easter Bunny without being too scary so I decided to skip the very bloody details and gore. In the end I think our little zombie bunny friend is just the right combination of undead and cute.

It could have turned out a little better (I rushed the ears and feet) but overall I’m pleased with the final product. I might take some time to clean things up and improve upon it in the future. It certainly could have been a lot worse considering it is my first ever attempt at designing a papercraft toy.

Feel free to print and share this free papercraft toy with your zombie friends and family. It might be a fun Easter afternoon project with the kids!  You can download the papercraft pattern in either .jpg or .pdf format using the links below.

PDF Page 1

PDF Page 2

JPG Page 1

JPB Page 2

Required Tools:

Photo paper, Cardstock or other heavy and durable paper for your printer

Scissors and/or a craft razor knife

Glue or tape isn’t required but it does help hold everything together a little better and makes holding the ears and feet together a little easier.

Construction Tips:

Be careful with scissors and other cutting utensils. Children should definitely not attempt this without help from an adult.

Print the pattern on cardstock or photo paper. Regular paper generally isn’t stiff or heavy enough to hold shapes well enough.

An exacto knife or similar craft knife works best for making small cuts and slits

Cut your slits for tabs while you make your other cuts and before you begin assembling your zombie bunny. Trying to cut slits for ears and the tabs is much more difficult once you start assembly.

You can tape or glue the bunny feet to the bottom of the torso or you can slits in the front or sides of the torso. There are no lines or marks to cut slits for the feet because I wanted to leave the final position of the feet up to you!

Try bending or folding the bunny ears on an angle for a fun “floppy bunny ear” effect.

Have Fun!

Hollywood is Dead: Movie Poster Art Featuring the Greatest Box Office Cadavers

Matt Busch has been single-handedly killing Hollywood since 2009. No,that’s not an insult. He has literally been killing, then bringing back from the dead, iconic Hollywood movie posters. You see Matt is an incredibly gifted artist and just one of his many loves and talents is faithfully creating zombie versions of popular Hollywood movie posters.

How did Matt ever begin zombifying Hollywood one brilliant movie poster at a time? Already a renowned professional illustrator at the time, Matt was approached by Lucasfilm Ltd. in 2009. (The Star Wars franchise doesn’t just trust anyone for collaborative projects!) They wanted Matt to come up with an image design combining Star Wars and zombies for use in promoting the horror novel Death Troopers on StarWars.com. Matt came up with the brilliant idea of creating a zombie version of a movie poster for each of the six Star Wars films. Of course his work was an instant hit with Star Wars and zombie fans alike. Demands for zombie parodies of other iconic film posters soon followed.  The rest is Hollywood is Dead history.

Matt has currently blessed about 40 past and current movie posters with his zombie treatment. Although it would be much easier to simply Photoshop or otherwise digitally alter a copy of each movie poster, Matt is far too artistically gifted to do so. Perhaps better stated, he is far too appreciative of the original artwork to take the easy way out. Instead he faithfully repaints each movie poster by hand in mixed media with painstaking detail before giving the poster his signature zombie touch. Prints for posters and other merchandise are then made from the final result.

I cannot stress how awesome his zombie movie poster parodies are. Matt truly goes the extra mile. He doesn’t just throw some zombies into a design and call it good. He completely zombifies the entire movie poster. He recreates the movie title, creates zombie versions of the tagline, gives the actors zombie names and more. His work is brilliant down to the last detail.

If you have a thousand dollars or two to spare you can own one of Matt’s original mixed media creations by purchasing through a site like ArtInsights.com. Believe me his original paintings are worth every penny; I just don’t have that kind of cash sitting around. Neither do most of my zombie loving friends.  Luckily Matt has made his incredible zombie box office art available at a very low cost for all of us ordinary zombie and film fans out there.

Matt’s unique zombie movie poster art is now available for purchase in affordable poster form. Each of his popular designs is available as a 19″ x 13″ poster printed on heavy 100 lb card stock with a smooth coating and matte finish. The best part is each zombie poster is generally priced below $20.00! At that price I’d love to eventually own each one. (If only I had the room to display them all!)  Making the decision to purchase one of these awesome zombie posters is the easy part. Narrowing your decision down to just one, or a few, makes for a deathly difficult decision!

In an effort to share my worthless opinion I’ve posted my 5 favorite Hollywood is Dead posters below. Trust me, narrowing it down to my top five wasn’t easy because I love them all!

There are literally dozens of awesome zombie movie posters in the Hollywood is Dead series. He has created zombie movie posters for many popular movie posters. To see all of the Hollywood is Dead posters: CLICK HERE

Matt Busch is a truly talented man. In addition to being an amazing artist he’s also a gifted writer, filmmaker and more. To learn more about Matt visit MattBusch.com. To learn more about the Hollywood is Dead movie poster art visit Hollywood-is-Dead.com.

5.  Zombie George Papertoy

This awesome adorable zombie papertoy model comes from paper project genius and artist Marshall Alexander.  I’m not sure why we love this little guy so much. Maybe the huge thick rim glasses and the name George remind me of a certain godfather of the zombie movie genre? Click the image or link above to grab your free zombie paper toy template.  Marshall created these models specifically to fit the small pages of  Volume 1 and Volume 2 of the Fat Chunk comics.  In case you aren’t aware, each of these volumes is a collaboration of awesome art and printwork of various artists. Volume 1 is a robot theme and Fat Chunk Volume 2 is all about zombies!

UPDATE – 4/29/2016:
Unfortunately this awesome papercraft toy resembling George Romero is no longer available for free download from the original author’s website.

UPDATE – 4/17/2018 & 4/16/2020:
The original artist’s site, MarshallAlexander.net appears to be gone. The links here will now take you to our uploaded copy of the original file we downloaded for free many years back. Please see notes below.

We generally try to avoid hosting any of the downloadable template files here on our site. While doing so does make things easier for our visitors and readers, we try to encourage users to visit the original artist’s or creator’s website whenever possible. Unfortunately, that just isn’t possible in this case. The original site, and all alternative sources for this zombie papercraft model, have disappeared over the years. This file was originally offered to the public for free download. We still get many requests for updates on this particular piece.

As a result we’ve chosen to upload our copy which you can download here.

Unfortunately, if you’re dying to have this papercraft zombie model while still supporting the original artist, your options are limited. Your best bet is probably going to be purchasing the book Fat Chunk Volume 2: Zombies by Jamie Smart. This model is reportedly included within its pages. That likely won’t go far in supporting the author since the book, its website and the original publisher appear to be long gone as well.  The book itself is becoming harder to obtain since it was originally published back in 2009. If we find updated info on the original artist, or how to better support them for their efforts, we’ll update this post.

6.  Zombie Cheerleader and Zombie Jock

These 2 awesome zombie paper toy creations were created by illustrator and graphic art extraordinaire Adam Steel. These zombie toys are a cute zombie cheerleader and zombie jock couple.  Now you can make this set of zombie prom king and queen using the free downloadable templates.  CLICK HERE for the zombie jock template and CLICK HERE for the zombie cheerleader template.  Too cool! Adam has a few other cool zombie creations you’ll probably end up seeing featured on this page.

7.  Zombie BFF Paper Toy

This free zombie paper toy features a happy young girl riding on the shoulders of her zombie friend.  You can clearly tell these two are going to be best friends forever!  To download the free template for this zombie paper toy CLICK HERE.  This little zombie work of art was created by Cubeecraft guest artist Abi Braceros (aka Abz). Thanks to Abi, cubeecraft.com and paperkraft.blogspot.com for bringing this awesome free zombie papercraft to the mass

8.  Seated Cube Zombie – Free Zombie Papercraft

This seated zombie papercraft has to be one of my favorite zombie paper toys to date. The sick details and gory exposed brain are just the right blend of realistic gore and cartoonish features! From the power rock wristbands to his Misfits t-shirt, you can tell this guy was a rocker in his living days.

This is an awesome collaboration by Brazilian artists Victor Negreiro and Julio Cesar.  Click here for the free pattern to create this zombie work of art. Although I haven’t had time to build this masterpiece yet it does look a little more involved than some of the other zombie papercraft listed here. Take your time. Make careful cuts and folds and you should be fine. The great part of papercraft is, in the worst case scenario you just print out another one and start over until you get it right!

9.  Free Zombie Papertoy- Left 4 Dead: The Tank

Anyone that has ever spent some time playing the popular video game knows the hulkish beast that is the Tank. You generally feel and hear this monster coming before you ever see him. As a gamer, when you sense the Tank’s presence your palm’s get a little sweaty because you know the zombie Sh*t’s about to hit the fan! Thanks to Saltnpaper.com now the tank can strike fear into the hearts of zombie fans on a daily basis in paper form.

10.  Free Zombie Papercraft from Macula.TV

This free zombie papercraft is brought to us from artist Christopher Bonnette on his site Macula.tv. We love the wonderful big eyes and cracks and wrinkles around the face. We’re not sure whether the dagger on the floor belongs to the zombie or one his recent victims, but it’s still a nice touch! This zombie work of art can be constructed absolutely free.

Update 4/16/2020:
Unfortunately the site Macula.tv is no longer up or available. We’ll update this post if we find the site has relocated. We did manage to obtain a copy of the original file that was hosted on the site. We’re making that file available for download below.

Download the template here.

11. Undead Larry 1 Zombie Papercraft:

Undead Larry is brought to us by Zombie Carter from TheZombieNation.com. He’s cute, adorable, and relatively easy to build. There aren’t many complicated folds or cuts, so this zombie papercraft is ideal for younger zombie fans to help out with.

Update: 8/13/2023: Unfortunately, it looks like TheZombieNation.com site is gone. That stinks! The good news is we’ve managed to snag a copy of the pattern which you can view here:

Undead Larry Pattern

12. Undead Larry 2:

This is a second version of Undead Larry. Just like the original, this one is brought to us by the folks at TheZombieNation.com.

Update: 8-13-2023 As mentioned above, TheZombieNation.com doesn’t exist anymore. Luckily, we could upload our copy of the pattern to our server for archival purposes so Undead Larry 2 can live on! Well. . . not live on. You know what we mean.

Download the Undead Larry 2 Papercraft pattern here.
